Scintilla®
Scintilla’s thousands of internal, light-conducting channels are activated by shadow, movement, light, and color, creating a magically interactive surface - no power or electronics are required. This low tech but high impact material is available in both Glass and Resin. Resin offers greater ease of fabrication.
Featured Applications
Scintilla is a versatile material that has been used in a variety of applications as a solid surface. Counter-tops and sensory walls are very popular, although it has been tastefully incorporated in public art and even floor designs as well.Counter Top
From a distance, this beautiful surfacing seems to softly glow with a silvery inner light; as one nears, it magically comes alive with a surprising burst of movement and color.
A multi-location specification, the bar-top was provided as a ready-to-install kit of parts with size, edge and corner detailing customized to the requirement for each location.
Column
In a place-making design by JPRA, MI, a 40’ conical column was designed using 2,400 hundred overlapping 4"x 12" Scintilla panels mounted to aluminum brackets in ring-like sections. The solution was provided with edge-lights that illuminate each ring to create an impressive glowing column. Each “ring” is designed to be individually controlled to create complex light shows.
The whimsical expression of light and texture in this show-stopping design creates an unforgettable and magical retail experience.
Glass
Decorative architectural glass that not only adds impeccable beauty and function to a space but also engages users and connects them to the spaces they live, work and play in. The pattern is internal to the material while the external surfaces are smooth, easy to clean and sanitize.
Patterns
The optical connections that are carved within the material express on the reactive surface as facets. These can be arranged in a random or a regular (grid) pattern. Patterns can be scaled up or down or varied within the same panel.
Grain
Grain Widths impart a range of aesthetics to the material, from delicate to dramatic. The choice of grain may be led by aesthetic, degree of interactivity and scale of installation.
Environmentally friendly and Sustainable
As well as creating innovative, dynamic spaces, light-manipulating materials will not emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during their production or their lifecycle, making them safe for use in an interior environment. They are PVC- and formaldehyde-free and contain no chemicals of concern.
Third party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD's), Health Product Declaration (HPD)s as well as recycled content certification is available for our materials.
