Auburn University Gouge Performing Arts Center
In this awe-inspiring design, Wilson Butler Architects specified playful wall sconces that create a rhythm in the auditorium. According to Alastair Battson of Wilson Butler Architects, “Sensitile is a very memorable product that added the character we needed to the Auburn Theater.
Wilson Butler Architects had a pretty specific design inspiration for the light fixtures general look, but we knew we needed more than the inspiration offered. The specific requests from the designers, architects and client were to add a jewel like quality with sparkle and color. Your product brought the elements of color, character, playfulness, interest and some of the drama to what might have otherwise been a more benign light fixture. It also did so in an elegant way that was bold enough to be noticed but still a little understated.
At Wilson Butler Architects we believe a theater requires a particularly unique light fixture, more so than most other spaces. If possible we often end up designing a custom fixture. It is often a one off design, specific to its venue. The potential for something interesting and great is high, but the challenge is often daunting. A theater is art, is a creative space. We need to match that in the design of the space. The final light fixture was, in my opinion, art and added perfectly to the layers of design of the venue that made it feel like the dramatic, creative space it was meant to be.”
